Dec 21: Christmas shopping

Nathan is getting better at taking his milk (regular vitamin D milk).  In our first week in China with him, he was fine drinking his formula.  In the second week, he would finish his milk formula but not all the time.  After coming back home in US, he would not drink his milk formula and regular milk at all.  He would only take a few sips and he refuses to drink afterwards.  Our doctor told us that we have to give him his milk since he is lacking in vitamins.  To make Nathan drink his milk, we use a dropper.  First time we tried the dropper, he would cry and keep his mouth closed.  But once he cries and opens his mouth, we put the dropper into his mouth and pour the milk.  He cried until the milk was gone.  Today, he made a little fuss when we gave him his milk but he eventually stopped crying and allowed me to pour milk into his mouth.

We did some Christmas shopping today with Nathan.  We made sure he ate a big meal first then had a little nap before going out so that he doesn’t make a lot of fuss.  We went to the Old Navy in Vallejo and parking there wasn’t hard to find.  Going through the cash register wasn’t too bad because the line wasn’t long.  If we had gone to the Old Navy at the Fairfield mall, I am sure parking would be a problem as well as standing in line to purchase some items.  Normally, I would have been done with my Christmas shopping by now.  However, my life is definitely different having Nathan.  I am sure my husband would let me go to the mall and do some Christmas shopping but I just prefer to stay home with them.

After we did some Christmas shopping, we visited the Alvarez family so they can meet Nathan.   They live about 5 – 10 mins drive from our house. We have known them for at least 10 years.  They always make us feel very welcome in their house.  At first, Nathan didn’t walk around as much inside the house. Once he got warmed up with everyone, he started to walk around more and babbled at times.  He was quite taken with Pumpkin, the Alvarez’s cat.  I was taken with Pumpkin too because he has pretty eyes and his fluffy fur would definitely keep someone’s legs warm.  We still allow our cat Smeagol to sleep with us in bed.  Good thing he doesn’t jump into Nathan’s crib.  When Smeagol sleeps with us in bed, he either keeps my legs or Nelson’s legs warm at night.  Nathan liked playing with the box of Ghirardelli chocolates that was on the coffee table.  In one instance, he managed to take the top off and some pieces of chocolates fell onto the floor.  Good thing the individual chocolates were still wrapped in plastic.  Even though I took the box of chocolates away from him and placed it back onto the coffee table, he would walk back to the coffee table and grab the box again.

Neftali… aka ‘el magnifico’… and NathanMaria with Nathan

Back at our house, I changed Nathan upstairs in our bedroom.  In our master bath, we have this mirrored closet door.  Not too many house owners like having mirrored closet doors (yes, I watch a lot of house hunters on HGTV) , but I actually do because it is a space saver.  I don’t want a standing mirror on the floor.  But anyway, while I was drying my wet face, Nathan was staring at me in the mirror.  While he was staring at me, I started to stomp my feet.  He then started to stomp his feet as well.  Downstairs in the kitchen, I told Nelson about it and told Nathan to stomp his feet again.  Since Nathan didn’t understand what I was talking about, I stomped my feet again to show him.  Afterwards, he started to stomp his feet and even took his stomping further.  He began to dance!  See the video Nelson took. With the music Nelson added to the video, it even made Nathan’s dancing even more enjoyable to watch. 🙂
